Ranked in Top 500 on Amazon in Historical Fiction

Writing is also a numbers' game; or rather the selling and process of creating an income from writing are part of the numbers' game. Out of curiosity and in an effort to feel some hope that progress is happening, I began counting things:
  • number of print books sold--208 total:
    • via Amazon--8
    • via my sisters & mother in Newfoundland--126
    • directly from me--74
  • number of eBooks sold--57
  • Grand Total: 265 after 5 months.
It doesn't look like much because it's not much, however, I am pleased that I've published and the first 500 copies are always the hardest, I figure. I'll never give up. I continue to plug away, advertising, writing and promoting both.

Another set of numbers I've counting over the last 2 months that have helped keep me going are the following:

My Website
Feb. 2, 2016: number of visits to my website: http://bobbiesmith.ca = 3,072
Apr. 3, 2016: number of visits to my website: http://bobbiesmith.ca = 4,795
That's something to get excited about: 1,723 new visits. Hooray.

This Blog
Feb. 2, 2016: number of visits to this blog: 2,548
Apr. 3, 2016: number of visits to this blog: 2,633
That's 85 new visits. Considering I've only recently started blogging here regularly, that makes sense.

It's important to celebrate all successes, no matter how small. :)

Rank on Amazon
Feb. 2, 2016: my Paid Kindle Store Rank: 150,144
Apr. 3, 2016: my Paid Kindle Store Rank: 12,761

THAT is something to get excited about!! I realize it's not the Top 100, BUT, that's a difference of 137,383 books that have slipped below Worthy.

Hey, that's progress.

Feb. 2, 2016: Amazon Books Rank in Historical Fiction: 9,597
Apr. 3, 2016: Amazon Books Rank in Historical Fiction: 747
That's the Top 1000---getting there.

Feb. 2, 2016: Kindle eBooks Rank in Historical Fiction: 5,020
Apr. 3, 2016: Kindle eBooks Rank in Historical Fiction: 496
That's the Top 500!!!

Trading 50,000 Words in NaNoWriMo for A Published + Promoted Book

This year, instead of trying to stuff 50,000 words into my repertoire of written product--the hopeful outcome of NaNoWriMo, AKA, National Novel Writing Month--I decided to publish and promote a book that I've already written.

Worthy, my second novel, is about sin, secrets, shame and solitude explored via the life of a 15-year-old rape victim in WWII outport Newfoundland while this island was still a dominion of Great Britain and while U-boats circled like hawks in the nearby North Atlantic Ocean.
Here's what reviewers had to say about my book:

Worthy is a "detailed and convincing portrait of a conflicted Newfoundland family in the 1940s, set in a rugged, salty and storm-lashed setting that comes clearly to the senses," wrote one reviewer. "Events unfold with satisfying suspense and a good grasp of how and when to add fresh complications to the mix."

Author, Bobbie Smith, exposes the deep-seated belief systems in isolated families and communities that trap women. Smith exposes a dark era for North American women who became pregnant and were sent away to 'homes' for unwed mothers to 'make this go away.' In Worthythe protagonist, Sarah is thrown into such a situation, but it does not turn out as you'd expect.
